These Are the Hair Resolutions Hairstylists Want You to Make in 2023

Is it just us or are New Year’s resolutions kind of stressful? At the beginning of the new year, when you have the best intentions and motivation on your side, it feels like you’ll be able to cross off every promise you made to yourself, conquering your list. But once a few months have passed and motivation has jumped ship, that list is often left untouched. If you’re like us and resolutions straight up give you anxiety, don’t fret! We’re human and life is all about progress, not perfection. We like to make resolutions that focus on easy changes we can make that will make us feel good. This usually means something hair-related is on the top of the list. Nothing gives off “new year, new me” energy like a new ‘do so we asked some of the top hairstylists for easy New Year’s resolutions we should stick to in 2023.

Avoid Overprocessing

Aura Friedman, the colorist behind Tessa Thompson’s gorgeous red hue, wants naturals to keep their hair routines relatively low maintenance. Overprocessed hair is more likely to experience breakage and other damage. She says, “come up with a program to color hair more wisely without damage. Ask your colorist for K18Hair pre-color protection.”

Stay Consistent

Mane Addicts Artist Sabrina Porsche wants people to try their best to stick to the plan. She says, “the resolution that I would tell people to stick to is if you have damaged hair, and you were trying to get it back to being healthy as your resolution, don’t give up on your routine and the products that you choose. Keep the routine going for as long as possible, and I’m sure you will see results.”

Try Layers

Hairstylist and salon owner Justin Revenge kept it short and sweet when it came to suggesting a New Year’s resolution he wanted people to stick to in 2023. The in-demand hairstylist is known for his signature blowout (with or without tape-in extensions) and very often layers his clients’ hair. Layers are great because they can add volume, enhance your face shape, add movement, and so much more. If layering our hair will get us silk presses so good people think we’re wearing a wig, then sign us up.

A hair resolution is only as good as the scalp the hair grows from.
